Department of Communication, Culture and Languages

The Department contributes research-based education and knowledge development within PR and corporate communication, digital media management, culture and management, as well as intercultural communication. The Department has primary responsibility for all training within these areas at the BI Norwegian Business School and the research activity is focused around business-related research within communication, culture and management.

The Department changed its name from the Department of Communication, Culture and Languages to the Department of Communication and Culture effective from 1 January 2014.

The Department has a strong international orientation, nine of the full-time academic personnel have international backgrounds from England, Finland, Australia, the US, and Canada. The international profile is reflected in the education portfolio and in international scientific research and publications. The Department had an increase in scientific publication points the past year, from 13,4 points in 2012 to 17,9 in 2013.

The Department is concerned with the cultural diversity in the current global economy. The Department’s goal is to be a national resource for management communication and corporate culture.

THE DEPARTMENT HAS DIVIDED ITS ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES INTO TWO AREAS:

Communication:
Corporate communication, PR, management communication, digital media management, languages and media analysis, rhetoric, crisis communication, digital communication management and school management.

Culture:
Cultural literacy, cross-cultural communication, Scandinavian-style management, cultural knowledge management in the movie, theatre, music and publication industries.
