Department of Marketing

The Department of Marketing has top-notch researchers and is one of the largest academic environments in Europe for marketing. This means students have access to the most recent research and academic development within marketing.

The Department’s goal is that candidates will work for the best companies and be qualified for senior positions with these. The Department focuses on research-based teaching, communicated in a pedagogically efficient manner in all our programmes.

The Department of Marketing communicates its expertise within four bachelor programmes in connection with marketing subjects, one Master of Science programme in strategic marketing management, the executive programme with Executive Master of Management in marketing, and a Ph. D. in marketing. The Department focuses on offering research-based programmes in combination with modern teaching technology. The Department works closely with leading Norwegian and international companies, and participates in a major international network for researchers.

In contrast with the traditional theoretical and methodological academic organisational approaches, the Department initiated a process in 2013 to reorganise into three groups, based in their relevance in business. The Department is organised in the following groups:

Explore Market Opportunities – the mission statement of this group is to be experts and driving-forces in obtaining the most recent knowledge in identifying changes in customer needs. This group comprises market analysis specialists, experts on big data, insight, experiments, econometrics, technology and advanced analysis. A Marketing Intelligence Centre is currently being established with the goal being a contributor in working with Norwegian companies so they can exploit their customer data in a strategically sound manner.

Create Market Solutions – the mission statement is to be experts within how to organise for value creation. The group comprises people within market-oriented management, contract negotiations, outsourcing, partner selection, localisation decisions, contract monitoring, franchising, incentive systems, networks, internationalisation and value creation for stakeholders.

Manage Market Challenges – the mission statement of this group is to be experts and updated on how to handle market competition. This group comprises experts on message penetration, branding, pricing strategies and tactics, social media, sales, customer segmentation and positioning, as well as value achievement. The goal is no longer to stand apart from the competition, but rather to create a differentiated value for customers.
